A Casa Branca emitiu uma severa advertência ao presidente sírio, Bashar Assad, na segunda-feira à noite, porque alegava "potencial" de provas de que a Síria estava se preparando para outro ataque de armas químicas.Em uma declaração ameaçadora emitida sem evidências de apoio ou explicação adicional, o secretário de imprensa Sean Spicer disse que os EUA "identificaram potenciais preparativos para outro ataque de armas químicas pelo regime de Assad, que provavelmente resultaria no assassinato em massa de civis, incluindo crianças inocentes".Ele disse que as atividades foram semelhantes aos preparativos realizados antes de um ataque de abril de 2017 que matou dezenas de homens, mulheres e crianças e advertiu que se "Sr. Assad conduz outro ataque de assassinato em massa usando armas químicas, ele e suas forças armadas pagarão um preço pesado ".A Casa Branca não ofereceu detalhes sobre o que provocou a advertência e a porta-voz Sarah Sanders disse que não tinha informações adicionais na segunda-feira à noite.

@nikkihaley I like your pre-blaming any use of chemical weapons on Assad. This gives an enormous incentive to Saudis, Al Qaeda and ISIS to use them.
